HMH KidTown Child Development Center earns a Level 4 provider

HMH KidTown Development Center was recognized by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services Department for Community Based Services as a Level FOUR provider in the Kentucky All STARS tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System. Kentucky All STARS is Kentucky’s expanded five-star quality rating and improvement system serving all early care and education programs – including childcare centers, Head Start and public preschool. This is the second consecutive Level FOUR recognition for HMH KidTown.

Glen Allen announces retirement after 38 years of service at HMH

On October 31, 1984, Glen Allen was hired as a maintenance mechanic at Harrison Memorial Hospital. After 38 years, he is ready to embark on a well-earned retirement.

“When I began my career, there were five total employees in the maintenance department, and the building was around 99,900 square feet,” said Allen. “Now, the building has grown to more than 218,000 square feet including five off-site areas.”

Three years after joining HMH, Allen became Manager of Maintenance, and then in 1999, his role changed to Director of Environmental Sciences. 

National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program Recognizes Harrison Memorial Hospital

Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) was recently recognized by the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program as a silver level for their commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep. 

HMH Auxiliary donates funds to purchase equipment for staff education

The Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) Auxiliary had another successful year in 2021. 

In March 2022, the HMH Auxiliary purchased the SimNewB newborn patient simulator for nursing and physician education. The advanced life support manikin provides a realistic training experience allowing staff to practice skills and participate in interactive scenarios.  

HMH Earns National Re-accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer

The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a stringent quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has granted a three-year re-accreditation to the cancer program at Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH). First accredited in 2018, HMH underwent a recent site visit and achieved successful results. To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet thirty-four CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.  

Brooks and Dages join HMH Management Team

The Information Systems (IS) Department is now two new departments, Information Technology and Clinical Informatics. Both departments report to the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Stephen Toadvine. With the new departments, HMH has two new management positions— Director of Information Technology and Clinical Informatics Manager.

HMH Medical Staff welcomes Taylor Faulkner, Physician Assistant

Harrison Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Physician Assistant Taylor Faulkner, P.A.-C.

A physician assistant (PA) is a type of healthcare provider who can diagnose illnesses, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, and can serve as a principal healthcare provider. PAs are under the guidance of a physician (MD) for supervision and collaboration. She will be working in the HMH Physician Group: Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine office at HMH.

Chris Bryant D.P.M. joins HMH Medical Staff

Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) is pleased to welcome Dr. Chris Bryant, Podiatrist to the HMH Medical staff. 

Esther Mwasumbi, APRN, joins HMH Physician Group: Foot and Ankle Surgery

Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) is pleased to announce the addition of Esther Mwasumbi, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). She is a nurse practitioner, working alongside HMH Foot and Ankle Surgeon, Sofie Pinney, D.P.M. who specializes in foot and ankle disorders. 

Dr. Jennifer Canan joins HMH Active Medical Staff

Harrison Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Jennifer Canan, D.O., Obstetrician and Gynecologist, to its active medical staff. 

Dr. Canan has joined Dr. Derek Clarke and Dr. Laura Moore in providing full-service obstetrical and gynecologic care to our female patients. Dr. Canan will specialize in general gynecology care, as well as full-service obstetrical care, from pregnancy diagnosis to delivery and follow-up care.
