OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY MARKEY CANCER CENTER
Harrison Memorial Hospital is a member of the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network. So what does that mean for me as the patient? This Affiliate Network provides many of the benefits of  world-class oncology diagnosis, treatment and research at the local level. The vision of this Affiliate Network is for all Kentuckians to have access to quality cancer care regardless of where they live in the Commonwealth. By offering advanced treatment and support services to all Kentuckians, and doing so with compassion and respect, we make Kentucky patients and their families a priority when they are faced with the difficult diagnosis of cancer.
UK Markey Cancer Center has made it a goal to deliver advanced cancer care to smaller communities throughout the state, providing convenience for the patient. However, there are times when treatment is needed beyond the capacity of community hospitals like Harrison Memorial Hospital. That’s when HMH patients will continue to receive high-quality care in Lexington at UK Markey Cancer Center. Having this Affiliate Network ensures that, as a patient, you will be seen by the same oncologist and nurse practitioner that has provided your care at the local level.

HOW DO I BENEFIT AS A PATIENT IN THIS MARKEY AFFILIATE NETWORK?\

There are several ways that the benefits of this Affiliate Network trickle down to you as the patient.
• The Markey Affiliate Network provides cancer-specific education and training programs for community doctors, nurses and staff to ensure the most up-to-date cancer information is available to providers.
• Network hospitals, like HMH, gain access to specialized programs that may not be available in other small communities, such as genetic counseling and fertility preservation.
• The Markey Affiliate Network assists HMH in achieving and maintaining accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), which recognizes hospitals for high-quality, comprehensive and multi-disciplinary cancer care.
• You, as a patient, have access to the most up-to-date treatments right here at home, minimizing travel outside your local area.
• Your family members have access to as many resources as possible locally, so they can focus their energies on supporting you. Treatment provided locally means your family members spend less time traveling and more time supporting you.
• Specialists at UK Markey Cancer Center work with local hospitals, like HMH, primary care physicians and referring physicians to coordinate your care – before, during and after treatment.
• The Markey Affiliate Network hosts local cancer prevention and education activities, such as health fairs and cancer screening programs.

HMH CHEMOTHERAPY SERVICES

Harrison Memorial Hospital offers chemotherapy services and cancer care services right here in Cynthiana, KY. Our chemotherapy suite is located within the HMH Outpatient Services Department on the first floor of the hospital. We offer six chemotherapy bays, furnished with recliners and flat-screen televisions. We offer one private room as well. Chemotherapy treatments are available Monday through Friday.

Medical oncologists from UK Markey Cancer Center are available weekly to answer any questions you may have and to monitor your treatment. Our HMH nurses who work in our chemotherapy suite are specially trained in chemotherapy administration by UK Markey Cancer Center and are certified by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS). These nurses have extensive knowledge and experience in caring for cancer patients. Their job is to administer treatment and to assist you in every step of the way toward recovery.

CLINICAL TRIALS
An important component of advancing cancer treatment and care is the information that is gathered during clinical trials. A great benefit of our partnership in the UK Markey Affiliate Network is that we offer the opportunity for our patients to participate in their clinical trials, when medically appropriate. These trials sometimes offer investigational treatments which can be administered to patients like you in the comfort and convenience of Cynthiana.

To learn more about clinical trials currently being conducted, check out the websites listed below. Ask your physician whether you might be a suitable candidate for participation in any of these clinical trials.
