Harrison Memorial Hospital awarded Best Places to Work in Kentucky for ninth consecutive year

Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) in Cynthiana, Kentucky, was recently named as one of the Best Places to Work in Kentucky 2019.  The awards program was created in 2005 and is a project of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM) and Lifestyle Health Plans.

The statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Kentucky, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses. The Best Places to Work in Kentucky 2019 list is made up of 100 companies.

“Harrison Memorial Hospital is honored with being named one of the Best Places to Work in Kentucky for the ninth consecutive year,” says Dr. Stephen Besson, Chairman of the Harrison Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. With more than 470 highly-skilled professionals, HMH is one of the largest employers in the area. One of the goals of the HMH Board of Directors is to recruit and retain a high performing staff to help us in our mission of helping our community. The award is a validation that the goal is being met consistently each year.”

To be considered for participation, Harrison Memorial Hospital had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

- Have at least 15 employees working in Kentucky;
- Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity;
- Be a publicly or privately held business;
- Have a facility in the state of Kentucky; and
- Must be in business a minimum of one year.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Kentucky. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices and demographics through a questionnaire. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience.  The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.  Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Kentucky and also analyzed the data and used its expertise to determine the final rankings.

There are three categories – small companies of 15-149 employees, medium companies of 150-499 employees and large companies consisting of more than 500 employees. HMH has been awarded this honor and is listed in the medium company category with 27 additional companies.  In 2018, HMH placed sixth in the medium company rankings. In the last eight years, HMH has been ranked six times in the top ten.

“For nine years, HMH has achieved the goal of setting a high standard of employment commitment.” says Sheila Currans, HMH Chief Executive Officer. “HMH believes that when the employees feel valued, the patients benefit.  We are all better equipped to serve our community when employees truly know they are the core and heart of our success.”

Harrison Memorial Hospital will be recognized and honored at the Best Places to Work in Kentucky Fifteenth Annual Awards Dinner on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at the Lexington Convention Center.  The final rankings will be announced at the event.  A magazine recognizing the winners and their final rankings will be released for statewide distribution at that time.
