Chen and Merkley join HMH Medical Staff

Gastroenterologists, An-Yu Chen, M.D. and Scott Merkley, M.D., have joined the medical staff at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Chen is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He provides services in small bowel capsule endoscopy, colonoscopy with biopsy, polypectomy, stricture dilation and more. He also treats liver disease, including hepatitis C and hepatitis B, biliary disease, GERD, inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease testing and management.

Dr. Chen earned his undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University, Youngstown, OH. He then earned his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine, Rootstown, OH. Chen completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown, OH. And, he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Harvard Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Boston, MA.

Dr. Chen will perform procedures on the 1st and 3rd and 5th (when it occurs) Thursday of each month, beginning January 6, 2022.

Dr. Merkley is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He provides services in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy including colonoscopy with biopsy and polypectomy, upper endoscopy with biopsy, wireless small bowel capsule endoscopy, and more. He also treats a wide variety of gastrointestinal and liver diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, gallstones and pancreatitis.

Dr. Merkley earned his undergraduate degree from University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. He then earned his medical degree from University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, KY. He completed a residency in internal medicine at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Dr. Merkley will perform procedures on the 2nd and 4th and 5th (when it occurs) Wednesday of each month, beginning January 12, 2022.
