This past year was quite a period of forward momentum for Harrison Memorial Hospital. We saw a number of significant accomplishments, including successful accreditation once again by The Joint Commission and the American College of Pathologists. Read a message from our CEO, Sheila Currans, about the strides made in 2011, and our goals for 2012 and beyond.
Accreditation surveys successful: HMH recently completed two healthcare accreditation surveys with great success. In December, The Joint Commission visited HMH for a site survey conducted every three years. The Joint Commission is the national accrediting organization which ensures hospitals nationwide meet or exceed a stringent, extensive list of standards for providing care. HMH also successfully completed a survey by The College of American Pathologists, or CAP. This site visit ensures that all national accreditation standards are met in the hospital's laboratory and is equal to or more stringent than the government's own inspection program.
Go Red For Women activities: Each February, Harrison Memorial Hospital joins forces with other community organizations to celebrate the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign. Wellness Center expansion planned for August 2012: Among several hospital enhancements in 2012 is the expansion of the Wellness Center and Rehabilitation Services area. The expansion is expected to be complete by the end of August 2012.
"A plan is in the works to add an additional 800 square feet to our rehab area. The new space will be created by knocking out a far wall and extending the footprint. The addition will have a ceiling height of 11 or 12 feet, creating a feeling of being more spacious," said Don Wynn, director of HMH ancillary services.
The addition of orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Pettey has increased patient volume considerably in rehabilitation services, creating the need for more room.
"The additional open space will allow athletes room to kick and bat balls, and we'll also use the area for group classes, like the Silver Sneakers program," said Wynn.
