Cooper-Clayton Smoking Cessation Classes
Harrison Memorial Hospital brings to the community the well-known Cooper-Clayton Method for Smoking Cessation FREE to the public. This 12-week course runs continuously throughout the year.
"The Cooper-Clayton Method was developed by Thomas Coooper, D.D.S., a dentist, and Richard Clayton, Ph.D., a sociologist. The course has a 45 percent success rate nationwide," says Jana Brown, respiratory therapist at HMH.
The course consists of a 30-minute video presentation weekly for 12 weeks. Topics include smoking's effects on the entire body, descriptions of what participants should be feeling as they experience withdrawals each week, and even coping techniques. The video is used in conjunction with appropriate nicotine-replacement products, such as patches or gum. However, the cost of the nicotine-replacement products is the responsibility of the participant.
